Reference Code: 0.1 CB Xenodon pulcher
Species: Tri-color Hognose Snake
Lystrophis pulcher
Sex: Female
Death Date: 8/21/2013
Comments: Xenodon pulcher was described by Jan in 1863 as Heterodon pulcher, due to the morphological similarities shared with that genus. The type locality is Bolivia, and it was named after the Latin term "pulcher", meaning beautiful. It is also found in southwestern Brazil, southern Paraguay,
and Argentina. It is thought to be a coral snake mimic, imitating the sympatric species Micrurus pyrrhocryptus tricolor in Paraguay.

I acquired this specimen from a South Florida dealer, who had several of them available. It initially only accepted scented mice, but eventually switched over to feeding on unscented mice.
