Comments:	This is one of two specimens that I acquired from an importer in February 2011. Unfortunately, the other one died not long after I received it. This male is doing exceptionally well, and is now reliably feeding on fuzzy mice. This is not an uncommon species, but they are extremely well camouflaged, making them quite difficult to catch in the wild. It is also a specialized species that is not very high in demand, and is thus rarely imported.

It depends. Usually one of the importers brings in a shipment, and immediately sells some of the animals to several of the other importers. Fortunately, I have contacts that are close to several of the major Florida importers, so I don't have to constantly stay on top of this. When it comes to genera like Thelotornis, I have purchased every specimen that I have come across in the last 10+ years, and still its only been a few specimens. This particular species (T. capensis) is especially difficult to find in the trade, as most of the specimens are of the East African taxa.
