Comments:	Atheris chlorechis was first described by Pel (1851) as Vipera chlorechis. Cope (1859) moved it to the genus Toxicoa, and Jan (1863) into the genus Echis, until Cope (1862) and Peters (1864) classified it in its current genus. This is a West African taxon that is found from Guinea to Cameroon, with a type locality of Butre, Ghana (designated by Hughes & Barry 1969). Both of these females came from Ghana in July 2011. This particular specimen was quite dark and murky when it arrived, but has since turned into a shining example of this species!
