Comments:	This species was named after Hermann Schlegel, a German naturalist who worked at the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie in Leiden, Holland. It is a widespread taxon, occurring from Mexico (where it appears to be uncommon) to Peru. It is highly variable morphologically, which is part of the appeal it has to collectors. Typical length in captivity is around 60 cm, although total length of up to 97.9 cm have been reported in the literature (Campbell and Lamar 2004). A buddy of mine and myself bought a few juvenile Bothriechis schlegelii from Michael Burger back in 2003, including this specimen.
