Reference Code: 1.0 CB07 Broghammerus reticulatus
Species: Reticulated Python
Python reticulatus reticulatus
Sex: Male
Comments: When it comes to reptiles, don't ever make an impulse purchase! But - if you do, make sure that it is an awesome one! :-) Following that philosophy, we unexpectedly picked up this incredible male from Bob Clark in December 2011. He is an '07 animal, relatively small (only about 8 ft in length), and absolutely gorgeous. The contrast between the silver-grey lateral coloration and the bright yellow pattern is just incredible. This was one of Bob's holdback specimens that we were simply unable to resist.

Yeah, Bob was very cryptic about the genetic background of this animal, which leads me to believe that he is heterozygous for a bag of goodies. I told Bob that I would consider the snake to be 'het for Bob'. I knew you were going to ask about the new genus Broghammerus! This is a bit of a bothersome story, as this was done in a paper by the poster child for poor scientific methodology (and/or complete lack thereof). In 2004, Hoser published a paper the reclassified Pythoninae, and erected the new genus Broghammerus for B. reticulatus. It was poorly-written and relied solely on other people's work, presenting no new data or analysis. Unfortunately, pending further work, we may still be stuck with his taxonomy.

He's kind of a fat boy. I'm surprised he's only 8 ft. Maybe he has some dwarf blood. The last 8 ft. male I bought from Bob was a 2007 or 2008, but it was at the June 2009 show. High orange albino tiger. Miss him... and all my retics. They are so alive. Give that boy some perches and let him be the snake that he is supposed to be. So many people deny them this. -p-

He is wicked cool! I too have succumbed to some of Bob's "normal" holdbacks. The cool thing is that they are almost all het for something, at least albino, and they have yellowhead blood. Since when are retics not Python? It's about damn time. Retics and Timors are the missing link between Python and Morelia, IMO. -p-
