| Vasuki was very reluctant to eat tonight. Rat was initially offered unscented and refused. Then was scented with mouse blood and, while he showed more interest, was also refused. Attempted heating head under heat lamp but was still refused. Attempted scenting more of the rats body. After walking the rat in front of him horizontally he struck but immediately released. I then attempted rinsing rat off, soaking again in hot water and rescenting with less blood and more "intestinal" scent, after which he struck and constricted. Unsure whether additional heating was the solution or whether he dislikes blood. He had difficulty eating it as well, rolling it around in the substrate and acting mildly distressed. He did swallow it successfully but got a mouthful of dirt in the process. Belly could be slightly pink, difficult to tell given low light conditions in tank. He seems settled for the time being. |
