I keep hearing about cateaters. What hybrid is that? I'm fairly certain that it has either burm or retic in it.

kfethe,

never mind. just looked at your burm hybrid list.

Too big for me!! lol. I have enough dreams about getting eaten by snakes..bleh.

Abbo ,

You could always get a super dwarf ;) I've had mainlands and love them, but space is limited. I have no problem with the size but my trailer does!

TheaN526,
Posted At: 3/5/2010 5:04:36 AM
A super super dwarf.. like 5-6 feet. LOL.

Abbo ,
Posted At: 3/5/2010 5:44:15 AM
Lol the super dwarfs are 5-6 ft ;)

TheaN526,

But isn't a retic still a retic? Just saying.. LOL.  I guess I can't classify them all as "aggressive". What do I know.. lol.

Abbo ,
Posted At: 3/5/2010 6:31:22 AM
They aren't aggressive, lol. I've had 4 and only one of them was mean... and he wasn't mean to me, just men, LOL. He was cage aggressive but once he was out he was fine. The other 3 were dollbabies! Especially the 16ft girlie I had, I would let her roam my room and she would coil up under my bed and sleep for a while, later coming out and getting on my bed with me to hang out. Retics are the coolest snakes I've ever owned!

TheaN526,
Posted At: 3/5/2010 6:38:22 AM
Ahh, 16 ft? No...NO thanks!! I enjoy looking at them from afar.. Plus I don't want my dog to be a snack. Remember the 5 lbs? I don't mind people who have them, but I would not!

Abbo ,
Posted At: 3/5/2010 6:39:33 AM
Yea, I wouldn't recommend the big guns to everyone... But I love em :) I want to get an SD since I don't have the room for a big one but who knows when that'll happen.

TheaN526,
Posted At: 3/5/2010 6:41:08 AM
I will check out a Super Dwarf. Maybe get some experience, and than mull over it for a year. lol.

Abbo ,
Posted At: 3/5/2010 7:11:52 AM
Yes, they are still retics so it is best to do a lot of research :) I've heard the SD's can be more flighty but I've also heard the opposite. I think raising one from a baby and handling it often would solve that.

TheaN526,
Posted At: 3/5/2010 7:17:20 AM
More than likely. I've never actually raised any snakes from babyhood. LOL. Most of the snakes I have gotten are between 9 months and 4 years old. Not sure completely. In the case of a Retic though I would need to raise it from a young age.

Abbo ,
Posted At: 3/5/2010 7:19:18 AM
They are great fun!

TheaN526,
Posted At: 3/5/2010 7:22:56 AM
As long as they  don't reach 20 feet.. fine by me! LOL. and doesn't chew my head off.. Wait, snakes don't chew. hehe.

Abbo ,
Posted At: 3/5/2010 7:24:19 AM
haha. Well an SD won't even get over 7 ft so you'd be safe there! Just buy from a reputable person to be sure it is an SD. They are becoming easier to find every day.

TheaN526,
Posted At: 3/5/2010 7:31:51 AM
Good, under 7 feet is manageable. My boa is about 6 1/2 feet. He is manageable.

Abbo ,
Posted At: 3/5/2010 7:36:45 AM
Yep, and your boa is definitely bigger than an SD... they are more slender :)

TheaN526,
Posted At: 3/5/2010 7:39:12 AM
I like slender. Boas tend to be pretty thick. It kind of freaks me out sometimes..but not really. I could manage a slender boa..and Poseidon is a little wild.. he's all over the place when you set him down. He's go go go, but when you hold him and walk with him he's calm. I guess it mellows him out. Oh, tangent over..

I'll check out the SD's and make sure it's an SD. I've seen some ads that are pretty misleading.

Abbo ,
Posted At: 3/5/2010 7:42:56 AM
Yea, the true SDs are pretty easy to identify, they tend to be more silver and have a thinner black pattern on the back. Like this:

TheaN526,
Posted At: 3/5/2010 7:46:32 AM
Thank you for that. I'll look out for them.:)

Abbo ,

NP :)

Dawn Switzer,

I have been thinking about getting a retic but. I am still. Doing my home work on them. ... I want to get more experience in handling big snakes before I venture into a retic: )

Abbo ,
Posted At: 3/5/2010 8:03:42 AM
Definitely a good idea Dawn :) I ALWAYS recommend getting hands-on experience with the big guys. Also doing your research and getting your enclosure setup perfectly first is equally important!

Dawn Switzer,
Posted At: 3/5/2010 10:26:11 AM
Yeah I now I just gotta find some one who will let me come visit and help clean and feed: )LOL I do fly for free: )

Abbo ,

haha, good luck :P

Dawn Switzer,

I found a SD 08 male at Seattle reptiles was under 4 foot for $450. Mmmm

Chris Costa ,

retics are my fav, just cant get enough of them. and because of how slender they are, you can have a 12ft retic in a cage thats big enough for a 6-8ft boa. a basic boaphile would be fine for one. although ive only had up to 12ft retics, ive had 16ft burms way before i got into retics, and i must say it is much rewarding to raise them from the egg. i know alot of people say that snakes cant remember who you are, but i believe if they see and smell you everyday it know exactly who you are and is very unlikely to attack.

Chris Costa ,
Posted At: 3/5/2010 11:17:37 PM
Dont forget about the snow and anery retics =-)

Abbo ,
