My Reptile Interests
|

I have been keeping reptiles since I was very young. When I was about five or six I caught my first garden snake, and after being bit I accidentally dropped it, then looked for hours for it. I ended up with some anoles, frogs, and toads instead. I realized how obsessed I was with the creatures, and after my grandmother paid me to let them all go, because after all, they were "wild animals," I went and spent the money on a pet iguana. After that, I bought an eastern collared lizard, a kingsnake, and a ball python, which I loved. Then in high school I got an eastern box turtle from one of my brother's friends to make me feel better after my first big break up with my first real boyfriend. (It really was sweet, he put it in the bath tub to surprise me!) I then brought home some more turtles, and caught myself a broadhead skink. I even found myself a baby common snapping turtle (which my mother wouldn't let me keep). Anyway, the list of wild caught specimen goes on and on throughout my young years. After selling my collection before college, I went and volunteered at our local zoo's reptile house, which helped me get over it just a bit, especially since I got to hold their infamous leucistic baby alligator!

Other Interests

I train my dogs, and collect My Little Ponies. I have dabbled in customizing them, but while I feel I'm creative, I'm not very artistic. They turn out quite a mess! I love literature, and at one point I was even thinking about going back to college to get a doctorate in philosophy where I would write my thesis on utilitarianism in modern adolescent literature. I am also an entomology enthusiast, and minored in entomology in college. I breed hedgehogs, and am hoping to get a pair of Czechoslovakian wolf dogs when I have the money saved up (probably in a couple years) because I hear they are a challenge to train, but once trained they are one of the most awesome dogs a person can have. Let's see, I love anything that comes on Adult Swim, and I love just about any food dealing with mayonnaise (except when it's on fruit... ewww). I am also fairly newly married, so anything my husband and I can do together is an interest of mine, though, I still have to win him over to reptiles :) He doesn't mind my bull snakes as long as they're not hissing at him.

I have way too many favorite bands to mention. I love just about any variation of rock, unless it sounds more like techno than rock. I also don't mind the occasional country song, but I'm very picky about which ones of those I like. I believe every genre of music can have good songs and bad songs, but some genres win more than others. (ex: rock vs. techno). I, sadly, do not have a podcast, but my phone would work as one, if I took the time to download stuff to it.

Movies

I LOVE the movie Repo: The Genetic Opera. I love musicals and old kids' movies. I really loved Mirror Mask and Happy Feet. I also own the My Little Pony movie from the eighties. lol. Let's see, I love almost everything the Coen Brothers have done, except for No Country For Old Men... I really hated that movie.

Professional

I'm taking a year off of school and working, after getting my bachelor's in philosophy. I think next year I'm going to be taking dog training classes and getting my masters in Social Work. That way, I can be a dog trainer and train my dogs to be canine good citizens and maybe turn them into therapy dogs. Can Rottweilers be therapy dogs? hehe.
