Animal Name: Cody
Species: Common Red-Tailed Boa
Boa constrictor constrictor
Sex: Male
Comments: This guy needs a name still. He is a purple beauty with a bit of an attitude. How many male Guyanas does one person need?

I just couldn't resist him.

Guyanas and Surinams are really the same boa... there is nothing dividing their habitat... Most snakes imported from that area come from what is referred to as Surinam Shield.... which is a large delineation including Guyana and part of French Guina.... I've seen imports from Surinam that look like what the market refers to as Guyanas and vice versa... they are highly polymorphic as well..... I would say this is no doubt from the northeastern region of South America... From what I understand from people that actually have been there the populations closer to the coast have the look this one has.... Daek with lightly peaked saddles... and this is what would classicly be labelled as Guyana by market standards.... The snakes from the interior of Surinam and Guyana are more peaked with lighter backgrounds and thinner saddles....these resemble Brazilian bcc from the Amazon basin.. Since both Guyana and Surinam have both regions...lowland marshes and mountainous rainforest both types live in both countries.....Yours is the Lowland variety IMO.... Very nice on indeed....

So you got the nippy fella too. He needed a good home, and got lucky to now have one.

"How many male Guyanans does a person need?" That's a ridiculous question and you know it. He's stunning!! :)

Beautiful find Sonja!! I don't know about you but I could handle a dozen of them. Then of course I'll need at least 2 dozen females LOL..
