You're technically correct, Nate. I have not done any mtDNA genotyping to know its precise origins. However, I did find it in an area of known subspecies range overlap where intergrades are described pretty frequently. Chuck Hurd, who is leagues more knowledgeable on North American pit vipers than I am, did a nice analysis of a picture I sent him which is available on my facebook page. He breaks down the southern vs. northern traits (practically) scale by scale!
