Comments: I adopted this big, sweet girl from The Pound. Her previous owners were leaving the state, and surrendered her - on my birthday ironically enough.

This poor girl has numerous large, deep scars from burns. From what I can gather from the paperwork that was surrendered with her, she had escaped from her cage and was loose for 2-3 months before the owners found her in early March of 2009 in their closet with these wounds. They believe that they are burn wounds from their wood burning stove. They had taken her to the vet, and had been treated for the burns, but were warned that due to the severity of the burns they would take a long time to heal, and that she may have some permanent nerve damage near the end of her tail.

When I adopted her, the last 1/3 of her body has a long deep scar running down it, and there was a spot about the size of a quarter that still had a scab. She also had several other healed/scarred over burns on her head, neck, and mid-body.

She is still sweet as pie, and easy going as can be. Her scab is now gone, fully healed, and the long white scar is slowly but surely being taken over by new scales - something I wasn't even sure was possible. With each shed that scar gets narrower and shorter, even if it's just by a few scales. One day there probably won't be any white scar left at all - just a bunch of funny looking misaligned, miscolored scales, and a kinked tail. But she already lives her life as if nothing ever happened. She's a spoiled pet now, and that's how she'll stay.

Wow. It takes some severe damage to scar a snake in such a manner. They will become, um... "less unattractive" with time and a few sheds. I definitely looks like she had something very hot dragged along her back. She must have crawled through a tight space with her dorsum pressed against a very hot surface. She seems to be well on the way to full recovery though. Once she's all healed up, she could make a good breeder. Female BC come into their breeding prime around age 9-10. :) -p-

I hope she is healing - a lot. She's in good hands!
