10/14/14	Comments	Substrate change		Up until this point, this snake has been housed on paper towel, with a hide & water bowl, and set away from much movement. As he does not seem interested in eating, my theories are that this is because he 1) feels insecure, or 2) doesn't like my mice, or both. I changed him to a loose burrowable paper substrate today to try to make him feel more secure. While making this change, I noticed something odd, which might offer a new explanation for his refusals to feed (not all of his feeding refusals have been recorded); he doesn't seem to tongue flick normally. He will stick only the forked tips of his tongue out to "flick," and the opening in the front of his mouth to allow the passage of his tongue appears rather small. This could be due to my own perceptions, as I hardly ever see such a young Dum, but it has my curiosity piqued.
