So...I bought them..

Posted by Holly at 3/11/2010 8:56:25 PM

Went to see the two ball pythons from my earlier post today. (thanks for all the comments!)

No pictures yet, gonna give them a day or so

Turns out these animals were in a horrible condition. oh, they came with full setups, but omg where they baconing disgusting...there was brown slim on the water dishes for example. the house was a wreck, couldnt walk without stepping on just about anything you can imagine. smelled aweful.

she did have a few setups, and showed me the $35 boy first. he is small. i'm guessing about 4-6mo though she insisted he was 2.... she explained he recently got out and one of the many cats running around must hve thought he was a toy (or food i thought) and baconed his back up pretty badly. it does look to me like it will shed out, mostly superficial, nothing that broke the skin. OR they could be permenent scars...i dunno yet. he seems unproportioned in the face though. very large buggy eyes. he had just fed, there was still his foodbaby in his tummy. ( i hated handling him when he was digesting) at first i wasnt gonna take him, he just looks sickly, but my heart gave in, how could i leave him at this dump?

the $75 girl was in much better condition. she is small for a two year old snake. i'm putting my bets on 1 maybe 1 and a half at most. she has a small bite scar on her neck, but that wasnt what caught my eye, she has a large scar/wound on her tummy, probably from a heatrock burn. it LOOKS to be a healing wound, but only a shed out will really tell me if its scared up or not.

both animals came with 40g tanks (which need some love and sealent and new screens) drift wood, bowls, hides, lamps and pads. though needing attention, they alone are worth the $110 i shelled out. Both snakes were of good weight, responded well to touch and movement, could right themselves, did not wheeze, did not have mites, and showed no signs of aggression. aside from the scars/wounds, they were healthy looking.

they are now home, and named. my boyfriend only agreed to this if i let him name the boy, which is now called Walle. "cuz he looks all wall-eyed" and as we talked i said, well i'm gonna keep calling him like that robot move...and as i said it, it stuck, and the girl is now Eva. I HATE naming them after the movie, but he liked walle and i really liked eva. (better then the original names of "sugar" and "duckface"

so thats my long update. worth the cost? probably. worth the time? definatly. :) they have a good home now, safe, warm, with declawed cats and secure enclosures!

pictures tomorrow or the next, its late, they are stressed and im tired lol

Holly
ps, Atlas didnt like giving up one of his spare heatpads lol...

Try offering food to both of them after a week; if the female turns it down, then at least she had the opportunity.  If both of them are healing up from the various ailments you described, you don't want to wait too long to offer food.

Best of luck with your new pets!  :)

Good for you Holly.  I find that the rescues often become my most loved animals.  I'm sure they will do well with you.  It feels great to see them months later looking like fat and happy healthy animals.

Good luck!
