What are you keeping the snakes in currently, and what are you using to secure the caging?

I'd consider one of those critter cages with the sliding screen top - Petco by me carries them. Here's a link to show you a pic...

Here's the link to Nate's blog with pics of his snake room...
http://www.iherp.com/Public/Blog/Detail.aspx?uid=26473
How are those drawer ones, Nate? Would they be more "secure" than the ones with the separate lids?
Which kind of ones are you using, Iasha?

The drawers work great for baby leos, but i wouldnt put a snake in them. The tubs with lids work great for me. Every baby i produced this year, and a couple that i bought, have all been kept in the tubs with lids. Not a single escape. If your tubs have lids, and youre still getting escaped, you should consider maybe taking a long enough (and wide enough) piece of melamine and using it to cover all the tubs. That assuming you can lay them out next to each other. Does that all make sense? It does to me.

yes, *not sure what melamine is without using google* but im assuming its a long, heavy piece of wood that can go across the top of them. idk, iva had bad bad luck with these guys, its rediculous. im leaning more and more towards the bigguns then small ones now

They use melamine to build racks. But if you can lay your tubs out next to each other, you could just have a melamine piece cut to fit across the top of all of them. Just make sure your tubs have good ventilation.

Yikes! I'm like Nate. I've kept all of my hatchlings this year in those same 6 quart tubs with nothing but the lid for security. I've had one escape, and I'm pretty sure it's because I didn't latch one side all the way after feeding her. Same goes with all of my yearling corns and my little BCI boy, only bigger (16 and 28 qt) tubs. FWIW, I have successfully used four small C-clamps to keep my big Beauty's temporary tub secure, because I'm about 99% sure she could pop right out of it if I didn't. It's superbly secure, and leaves barely any gap.. It can get pricey, though; in my area, a single, small c-clamp is a few dollars.
That said, I've had success with the sliding screen top tanks. Definitely another vote for them from me. All total, I've kept 6 corn snakes (ranging from 8 g hatchling to 400 g adult), a Dumeril's boa, and a ~3 ft BCI in this style enclosure (ranging from 10 to 29 gallons), with no escapes. I've also had success with metal screens WITH CLIPS on regular aquariums (10 through 75 gallons; smallish adult Rosy boa, a couple adult corns, the Beauty, and both BCIs). Not sure how it would work with baby corns, since I haven't done it myself, but people have been successful.
Now that I go back and think... Where did you get your tubs? Big Lots? Or are they the ones with the more "sleek" lids from Walmart (or something like that)? The 6 qts and 16 qts I've had so much luck with are from Big Lots... I don't know if the lid style would affect their escapability, but it's something to consider.

Wowzers! I can't believe I didn't think of this earlier - guess I was having a "duh" moment! LOL
Anyway, here's a pic of a type of Sterilite tub that I picked up at Walmart - they come in several sizes and are quite inexpensive. I had to use these this past summer for some newborn red-bellies and garters that were even finding their way out of the critter keeper with the sliding top!
I just drilled real tiny holes for ventilation in the top and a few more on the sides. Worked awesome!!
This is what they look like - you can buy them individually in the store.

i just use rocks or weights on the top of the tube and i always put heaviest snake on the bottom, I do have locking lids but i dont trust them so rocks are cheap and inexpensive and adds to the nature theme lol

Here's what the lids on my 6 qts look like...

The hatchling "stack." I've started weighing them down a bit with art pieces to be on the safe side.

The clamps on Lucy's tubs...

This system is working well for me.

Here's a cheap rack idea....take a 4' board, put a bunch of your lidded sterilite containers side by side. Put a second board on top of the lined up sterilite containers. Repeat as needed making sure that there's a board on top of the final row. If you can fit 4-5 boxes on a board, you can just silde out the ones you want and the others in the row will hold the board up. The board should be heavy enough to keep enough weight on the lids and wide enough to cover the majority of the lid. Home Depot & Lowes sell melamine shelf boards that should work nicely.

I know this may not appeal to all but I keep my baby corns in 12 " deli containers (like what they sell them in at shows) until they can't fit through the ventilation holes in my racks. I can fit a water dish in and a small hide and have never had an escape. I put the container in the drawer that will be that babys home. As long as the lid snaps when it closes not even a baby blood can get out. Other than that any screen style metal edged lid with clips is good but sliders are more secure.

I keep all my baby corns in sterlite tubs. Nothing special on the lids but the tubs have lids that snap in place pretty well. I've had no baby escapes from these. Eventually my baby corns go into standard 10 gallon aquaria with a standard screen to and either clamps on the tops, or bricks and text books. Eventually, the bigger ones move to a 20 gallon long with a similar top.
Big ones can escape two. Most of my escapes have been with the bigger snakes. But, fortunately, I haven't had any escapes in years. All of my escapes were my fault! It just takes diligense.

Racks work well when their built right some smaller corns have made it out of some fairly small holes. The last two years I've been using the med breeding boxes from Exo terra. They are a good size for small snakes under one year old, are well vented, stackable, and have a feeding window in the front.

I had a baby kingsnake get out of the 6qt Sterilite, so I'm a bit wary of them now too. I moved all my little corns and kings into Kritter Keepers/Herp Havens/Faunariums until they were big enough to go in my small rack and not get out. They also seemed to look for an escape route less if they had aspen to burrow in vs. just paper towels. But that's just my speculation.
I've got a young ball python in QT right now - basically the set up is a Sterilite tub sitting on some heat tape on a thermostat in my empty entertainment center, and then a clamp lamp hanging from above to warm the ambient temp since the air in the bedroom is cold. I was worried that it'd be able to pop off the lid of the tub since it's just sitting there not in a rack or anything, so I just put a belt around it and cinched it up nice and tight. Seems to be working perfectly.
