Only as big as the container you keep him in duh..... Really though biggest male I've had was a little over 5' that was an actual "corn" I had a male gray rat that was over 6' though.

Thanks, I knew that most reptiles grow to the length of their cage, but you never know when something is going to be different... I have him in a 20 gallon, he's 3 years old and about 4 ft long, I hope that's big enough. I've been aiming for over 4 ft sence he was a hatchling. Should I get him a larger cage? Am I cramming him? I don't want to get him a larger cage, unless it's apsolutely nessisary, because their not the cheepest things. I guess I could get him one of those big plastic crateish containers, like what mosts people have, but I'd really prefere a big glass cage. I only have two snakes

Reptiles do not grow only to the size of their enclosure. Thats just silly!
Most males top off around 5', give or take a foot.

damn. I was going to keep a saltwater croc in a ten gallon. I was planning for a bigger protien skimmer, but making mini crocs was going to be my retirement plan :(

Get your corn a bigger tank. Go to craigslist to get it cheap. Just keep watching 'till you see one for a good price. My Cheeto is 3 years old and about 4 1/2 feet. I would swear he is growing though. He uses every inch of his 40 gallon tank. He loves to have paper towel tubes to cruise through and move around. He also has the usual snake half log and another hide, but like any kid, he plays with the cheap paper towel tube:)

Oh, boy, talk about a dangerous misunderstanding... Ken, you should know better than to tease, lol! ;) kykatie, so long as they're fed, snakes will grow regardless of how big or small their enclosures are.
Anyway, adult corns (both male and female) can range anywhere from 3 ft to 6 ft as adults, depending on how much/often they're fed; the individual snake's metabolism; in the case of females, how early/often, if at all, they're bred; etc... I've heard claims of 7 ft males, but it's most certainly rare with pure corns.

Yeah I was screwing around about the size of the enclosure part. Though if they are kept in too small of an enclosure it can cause developmental problems and they would most likely die before they got to a normal adult size. Same thing goes for fish. Those old wives tales got started because people would keep animals in small cages and they would die before they properly matured. It wasn't always because of pure neglect mostly ignorance to the proper care. On the flip side depending on the species giving them a little more room to grow and obviously proper care will often allow them to grow slightly larger than average given that reptiles for the most part continue to grow their entire life..

My Anery boy (Hockey) is just at 5 feet. He's about as big a corn snake as I've ever seen. One of his offspring (Junior) is a big big baby and I think he'll take after his Daddy when it comes to size.
All of my other corns range between three and four feet.
That's definitely a silly idea, a myth, that reptiles only grow to fit their cage. But it's funny to think about how many people, especially kids, have used that as an excuse to keep an animal they wanted but weren't really ready for. I like the mini-croc idea. That would really be cool. LOL

Yeah, I work at a pet shop and you would not believe the amount of people who try to convince me reptiles only grow to their tank size. As a good general rule
you don't really wanna keep a single baby or juvenille corn in a tank larger than a 20 gallon. A large adult could be moved up but I mean think about it, most snakes in the wild curl up and hide away in a tight space.
Small snakes feel more secure and generally less stressed in a smaller tank with proper hides. I had my 3 babies in a 40 gallon and they stayed huddled up and barely ever
came out of their hides, so I moved them to some smaller tanks and they are more active and feeding well! :) Hope this helps!

Hey snakeman, I totally agree with you. In nature, many snakes spend most of their time coiled up in small spaces where they feel secure and I do believe that often works best in captivity too. I keep most of my corn snakes in 20 gallon long tanks with very secure lids. I don't give them hides but I give them lots and lots of newspaper substrate that they like to hide under, especially in the winter. They all feed well and stay very healthy. They all get to come out some and get some "outside time" but otherwise they are secure and "happy". Some of my pythons have larger enclosures more fitting to their size but they still spend a lot of time curled up under their paper substrate. They too like to feel secure in their hiding spots a lot of the time. Other times they come out and put themselves on display.
My lizards, well that's another story. They like to run all around. For them, the more space the better.
