I fed my savannah canned cat food stuffed with mealworms. But no one thinks thats a good idea. If its small, give it crickets and mealworms as a mainstay. Waxworms and pinkies should be more of a treat. Keep it on insects for as long as you can. That will give you time to raise it and interact with it so that you dont have a dog sized nasty monitor later in life. Vitamin supplement every other to every third feeding. Dont over do it or the calcium will ball up inside your monitor and the undigested mass will cause an impaction. Hope this helps you out.

I Don't have any monitors, yet, But there something thats i'll certainly keep in my future, From research i've done before, Canned cat and Dog food usually has too much fat in it,keep the pinkies and waxworms to a minimum aswell, as they are also high in fat.
Crickets or roaches (dubia, so on) Work well, mealworms contain alot of chitin, but should be fine.

look for a supplement geared toward large carnivirous lizards,  And like Fyre said, careful not to overdo it (its usualy calcium carbonate, an ingredient in pepto bismoll that when overdone will slow, and can stop digestion, also used in calci sand (which is horrid stuff))

When it gets large enough to eat small mice I'd switch over to frozen/thawed or pre/killed mice.

There is a commercial made canned monitor food, high in protien, I give it to my schneider's skink sometimes, I would'nt suggest using it as the main diet though.

When I had my sav, I fed him a mixture of crickets, supeworms, and waxworms.  He'd get a couple mice every week and also once a week, either an egg or a small amount of the canned monitor diet.
