hi all hope everybody is doing good. My question here is... I bought, last reptile show in montreal, a amazon tree boa(no pics yet sorry) and he is always on the ground during the day. He eats, temps and humidity is good. At night, he is always in his branch moving, looking around. So is it a normal behavior cause everything is ok excess for the resting in the day part . well hope to get some good news. cya

Arent they a nocturnal species? I couldnt tell you why it chooses to rest on the ground being as its arboreal and i would figure it would want a nice perch. But as far as the climbing at night, that should be typical behavior. Possibly on the hunt? Im eager to see what the experts have to say.

How are you heating the tank?
Maybe daytime is too hot? with a light on the branches
too cold? with heat mat?
Just curious ,

ATBs are Nocturnal, So being active at night is perfectly normal.
They are also known to go onto the ground at times (though I have never seen my Girl do this since i've gotten her??)
And this is not really in itself a cause for alarm, however If there always doing it there may be something slightly wrong.
Though usualy with the setup not the snake.
First off, What are the temps and humidity at? and what are you using to test that (dial thermometers? Stick on? Digital probes? tempgun?)
Also, what are the perches like?
ATBs don't like a single branch like a chondro or a ETB, they prefer something more like the crotch of a tree. Right angles, with a bit more space to lay out.
Many even prefer shelves over branches.
Also, Maybe the branch leaves him feeling too exposed during the day.
Alot of ATBs will pick feeling hidden on the ground over exposed on a branch.
I personaly think there should be more then one perch, just like a terrestrial animal should have more then one hide.
And since they mostly stay up off the ground, places to hide among the branches.

You could use a larger water dish, mist the tank more often, or you could wrap half the lid in syran wrap. The latches will still hold as long as you dont overdo it.

They aren't strictly arboreal, and they are nocturnal. Behavior sounds normal to me.

by, "Temps are good and humidity too"
What are the temps?
Humidity?
like LdyDrgn said, thats not really abnormal behavior, but the snake may just feel as secure off the ground and in the open during the day.
As for keeping the humidity up, mist more.
I've found it works best if the tank is allowed to "air out" between mistings.
I doubt its the humidity though, unless he's ready to shed.
Just curious, how are the branches setup?

I have a large zoomed tank for my GTP. 18Lx18Dx24H and I use the smallest flukers dome then cover the rest with a hot towel. That seems to be the more common way with screen top tanks. You have so many options though. You can get a piece of acrylic cut to the top and use a heat pane with a herpstat. You can do flexwatt. Check out moreliaviridis.yuku and search for cage set ups. The only ATB I've ever messed with was at the local shop I help at and it was in the perch about 98% of the time. Do you have any folage in the tank? It helps them feel more hidden. Maybe you just have an oddball.
