I just bought an emperor scorpion and saw some cool pics of red claw scorps and was wondering if both species can live in the same tank.

I'm pretty sure you'll have some combat to the death with that, but I'm not positive

yeah.. I was thinking the same thing.. I'm always iffy on animals sharing the same cage... let alone different species.. and after reading a few instances of cannibalism.. I think I'd rather not risk it..

IF and thats a big if they are both captive bred and the tank is large enough and they are not both male. You could keep the two species together. Though I would never personaly recommend keeping different species in a common tank.

i would never trust a red claw....ever!  had a trio in a large tank with several hides and lots of room and they soon became one.  i wouldn't do it with red claws ever again.  now emps, thats different.  i have a colony of 6 going and they are fine with each other.

What size tank do you have the 6 emps in? And what's the female to male ratio? If anything, I want I redclaw in it's own cage.. And 3-4 emps in a 20 gallon long tank..

i have 6 in a 20 gallon long right now in a 2.4 ration.  they are not mature yet (4th instar) but i plan on moving them to something larger pretty soon.  they are really mellow.

What does "4th instar" mean?

its how many molts the animal has had.  they start at first instar and then molt to second instar and so on.  its a way of "aging" scorpions.

Ohh sweet. But what if I don't know?.. Guess I can't be cool and use that term.. I want to get some young emps, but now I won't be able to put them in with Audrey III due to size difference.

if you don't know, you don't know.  go buy size of the animal then.  emps stinger change color when they are adult.  they turn brown.  the instar thing is a way of showing the animals are CB.
