I will be purchasing a Green Tree Python soon and was wondering if anyone has ever built a cage for their GTP?  If so could you give me some ideas and what materials on building a cage for it... Thanks

I like the taller cages where one side opens. You get easy access to the snake, and the snake has lots of climbing/arboreal room.

I Converted a tank for my Amazon Tree Boa, I imagine the cage for a chondro would be rather similiar, only larger?

Definitly go tall, And it is definitly nice to have access from the front or side instead of from above.

I took a 29 gallon tank, Flipped it on its side, Installed A Great stuff Foam Backround, Siliconed a Substrate dam into the bottom frame of the tank to keep the dirt in (Used GE silicone II, nontoxic when cured)
I then Built a screen and attatched it (also with silicone) to the top part of the plastic frame on the tank, had a glass cutter cut a piece of glass to fit over the open part (covering the opening and the substrate dam_ and siliconed metal hinges and clasps onto the door to open it, and lock it closed.

The tank measures around 13" x 19" x 30" , opens from the side, and is venilated from the side, leaving glass as the top, which help alot to keep heat and humidity in.

I used the plans from Greg Maxwell's site. My cages are 36 long by 24 by 24.  They stack nicely, are nice to look at and they hold heat and humidity well.  For what it's worth, Greg finds that chondros tend to move horizontally rather than vertically when climbing around, and I've found that to be true for the most part.  Mine spend a lot of time crawling around the bottom and going from top to bottom perches.

Oh, and one more thing.  Babies tend to do better in small rubbermaid tubs for the first year or so rather than large cages. I don't move any babies into anything larger until they are over a year old.

Eclipse,  I don't have any really good pictures of the tank, as my "digital camera" is really a bad camera phone, but I do have a picture from very early on in construction:

and here is a link to instructions I had to refer to when building my tank, The difference of course was I made mine a solid glass front, with the door on the side:

Green trees don't need as much height as ATBs, more depth. Mike seriously. If you're gonna get a green tree go to finegtps.com (greg maxwells site) and buy the book. It's amazing, it's called "the more complete chondro". A bit pricey at 59.95 shipped but you'll probably need it. It's worth the price just for the knowledge you get from it. GM is the man when it comes to green trees and his advice is second to none IMO. If you have issues with the little guy message me or mel. You know we're here to help you if this is what you want to do. Like I told you though, a baby GTP is a HUGE commitment and nothing should be taken lightly.
