A couple of ways. THe first thing you will notice is that she has formed a pyramid around her eggs. Female pythons will gather the eggs and wrap them in their coils with their head on top when they're done laying. If you're doing artificial incubation, once you take her off the eggs you'll also notice that she's much smaller all the way down. If she's retained any eggs it is usually pretty obvious. I always wait for my girls to wrap and then I'm pretty sure they're done.

Deb hit it. i did the same, i waited until my girl coiled the eggs so i would know she was done since it was my breeding attempt.

yeah, take it from me - look closely at her body when you remove her from the eggs, so you don't miss any that may be retained! if this occurs you will certainly be able to tell (I dealt with it this year)
good luck with that clutch, and what a gorgeous female.

I am sure you wil be just fine, Dawn :) And if you're lucky she'll start laying at night so that she has all night to do what she needs to do and you can sleep through it...hopefully she is good and done by the time you awake. Good luck!

For the record, with chondro girlies, I let them coil, and let them stabilize the eggs. I don't take them right away, leaving them with her for a number of hours or a day isn't likely to have negative consequence. Any eggs she abandons can be fired into the incubator (cover her with a towel if she's grabby) and then get them once they set. From here on in, I am unlikely to separate the eggs, I believe I'm going the more thermal mass provides more stabilization route. Some chondro breeders who have a large amount of success don't separate. I've had too much instability in ripping them apart... but that's also likely a me problem.
The way I figure it, if mom can do it in a clump, so can I!

thanks Aaron for the advice :) i am defaintly leaving the eggs clumped together if they are indeed that way. i am nervous about moving the eggs from mom to the sho box cuz i don't want to roll them around or any thing like that. i am hoping she isn't grabby but my luck she will be. i know speedy told me back in 08 before i got her she was breed and he had no problem getting the eggs from her and her frist clutch was 17 eggs only three hatched though. but i didn't breed her some one else did. i gave her 09 off do to the fact that my male wasnt ready yet. the person that did breed her said when she laid she didn't do it in the nest box. she laid out side of the nest box. i can't remember though what day he said she laid after pre lay shed.
today makes day 21 :) so hopfully any time now :)
