Q: Jaguar carpet python breeding size?
Posted By:

Well I was recently told that my jaguar carpet python would have to be 700 grams to breed but they said I could breed him with 2-3 females but I only have 1 female ATM to breed him to so can I breed him earlier and what sizes should he be for it to be healthy? Thanks!

I would go for more like 1000 or so but he also has to be at three years old to produce sperm. At  least that is what I was told by the breeders I know. My male is just shy of 3 years and is 1200. My older male that died was around 3000

male size is not nearly as important as the female.. you just want him to be big enough to handle the female

he doesnt have to be 3 years old to produce sperm.. some have successfully breed males at 1.5 years although i would wait til he is 2-3 years

My male Jaguar, Taliesin, bred at 2 years of age. He was rather small compared to the dam, but it worked out just fine.
You might run into some problems with yours being an 09 and trying to breed this year (based on his iherp page), but he might be able to do it. Aren't you concerned about getting him too big too fast though?
