Q:

What type of arboreal PVC caging is best for a Green Tree python?
|
|
I plan to aquire a chondro soon and want to get the best caging I can so he/she will thrive. What do people suggest for a good PVC type cage? Something that will look nice, hold humidty and heat well and give an adult enough room to feel comfortable and safe.
Cost is not as much of an issue as comfort for the animal and ease of care for me.

I have PVC cages by Jim Scharporn. They were 8 cages and a rack delivered in a reasonable time about 2 weeks and that was during the xmas new year holidays. I like the look and functionality of them they hold heat @ humidity well.

I agree with Bob. I love my PVC cages. I have the largest adult arboreal that he makes, and I ordered them with lights and heat panels. He now offers them shipped unassembled, and you can save quite a bit of money by putting them together when they arrive. I also have some Vision 222s. They are okay, but don't hold humidity like Jim's cages do.

If cost is not an issue, get an HDPE cage. Several potential risks with using PVC...espcially the rediculous burned perches Jim Scharporn offers.

All my cages are from Jim and my animals love them even the rediculous burned perches.

I like the Herp cages. They are very light, cheaper than most and are put together very well. Also shipping isnt that bad.

Jim's cages are top notch! http://www.pvccages.com/id149.htm Have to agree with Kim, I too have some Visions but they really do stink at holding humidity and heat for that matter. Animal Plastics is another company I have a few of that work well. http://animalplastics.com/
A lot of folks swear by Habitat Systems http://habitatsystemsltd.com/. Their cages are HDPE and though their cages are nice you will definitely break the bank for a purchase from them. For the $$$ it's really hard to beat the look and quality of Jim's setups!

I also use Jim’s cages, ordered un-assembled with heating/lighting options installed. The cage assembly is a snap, and only takes about 10min. For the money they are the best option out there IMHO, unless you are worried about the PVC out-gassing issue, in which case you wouldn’t be asking about the best PVC cage. HTH

If you are in the Illinois area, check out Boa Cabana (www.boa-cabana.com) he does custom enclosures. I was at his place last Saturday and he has 70 snakes in his living room, it's an awesome setup.

Habitat Systems is your answer if $ is no object.
Head and shoulders above the rest....
Just my 2 cents...

I'd agree with the comments above"
- Habitat Systems if you have the coin
- Jim Scharporn's are great on more of a budget.
