Q: Recommended heating for GTP cages?
Posted By:

I've used many different types of heating over the years but have never had a truly arboreal snake. Now that I'm working on a chondro setup, what do people recommend for heating sources?

I'm inclined to go with Radiant heat panels over anything else but would love to get opinions from those that keep these guys successfully.

I use Pro-Products Pro Heat Radiant Panels in all of my cages for adult Chondro's and Emeralds.

I use Pro product Radiant HP's w/ Herp stat thermostats I run about 87f day time under the highest perch with a night time drop for animals over 6 months old to 82f its cooler obviously not directly under the panel or if the snake moves to a lower perch. With neos I keep them at a constant 86.5f . I use them on PVC cages by J Scharporn.

I swear by Pro Products heat panels. I've had some now for well over 10 years, and they are still going strong. You can call Bob Pound (the owner of the company) and he will tell you exactly what you need if you tell him cage dimensions/room size/average room temps. Some people complain that they are expensive, but I feel they are worth it.

I am now using Desert heat panels from Big Apple.  I think it was Shiloh who told me about them. I also have a pro panel, but I can buy 4 desert heat panels for what one pro panel costs.  I can have extra panels in case one goes bad along the way, but I know he's been using them for a few years now without an issue. They are basically heat tape that's laminated so they stay flush with the roof of my cages.  I like that alot and they are doing the job perfectly without a problem.  I keep my cages at 82 on the warm side since I saw the article on thermal testing.  It was showing the snakes at 90 when the heat panels were set to 85.  I've noticed improved feeding and more active snakes with the temps at 82 and they still spend most of their time on the cool side so obviously it's not too cold.
