You'll need to call customer service and ask for your account representative to call you. Then you can arrange to ship a test package, which they'll be able to tell you about.

Hey Charlotte! Give me a call and I'll put you in touch with the lady in our area. It is a long drawn out process!

I just recently did this, took about a month.. Didn't have to call anyone.
This is all I had to do.
Fill out this application. http://images.fedex.com/us/services/pdf/PKG_Package_Test_Application.pdf
And send it in with your test package.
Soon after recieving your results, if your package passed, you should recieve an email with a waiver that you will need to sign and return.
Once they return the waiver with a Fedex rep's signature, you are done.

Forgot to mention, when you send out your test package, send it 2 day, and mark it "bill recipient" so that you don't have to pay shipping costs.

I just went through (actually still going through) the process. DON'T call the general customer service number! You might get lucky, but I called several times and could not get one customer rep who had a clue. And they all gave me bad/wrong information, wasted a lot of my time. My recommendation is to call the design/packaging department (1.800.633.7019). You don't have to, but probably a good idea just in case, and you can get their billing account number so you can bill the test package to them rather than paying for it yourself. The process is like Wicked said: 1) Send a test package (with the application included) to the design/packaging dept. (Bill it to the account number of the design/packaging dept.) 2) Wait for them to approve your package. (It only took about a week for them to send me the results.) 3) Wait for a sales rep to call or email you with the legal stuff. I'm still waiting for this, it's been about two weeks since I got the package approved. Good luck.

Well, that's why I told her to give me a call. Charlotte lives in my town. Our representative is very attentive. And actually helped speed up the process. If I had any questions or problems, she was willing to answer them. I do believe I was her "first" Fedex certification for live reptiles in the area, but she's got it down now. And she calls every so often to see how things are going.

No Will you do not. Once you're approved, you're good to go!

If they seem to be taking a really long time to get back to you after one of the steps, don't hesitate to call them--problems can occur during this process, including losing your paperwork.
