Albino Burmese Python Bad Balance
|
|
My canke had bad balance and sometimes has problems eating and he has problems wrapping around the rat you have to help him wrap around by moving it around. He isn't very old her is around 3 to 5 months old and he also doen't feel like any of my other snakes,(he is my only bermise my others are red tails and balls) he is really soft and feels like he doesn't have much muscle tone at all, I don't know if thats cause he is young. Could he have a parasite or brain damage? Help!!

How long have you had him for? What's the cage like? Does he keep his food down after he eats it?

wintersreptiles - not turning back is one of last instincts "to go". Meaning that if the reflex doesn't occur, the snake either suffers from a very severe neurological disorder, or that he is close to die...
I am going to assume that there are no regurgitations and so forth.
Does he get any sort of excercise? Is the tank too small for him to move around in?- reconsider the size of the viv, and include climbing possibilities for him- this is relevant only if the only issue is muscle tone.
The odd behavior may suggest a neurological disorder of some sort- which can be a born defect, or a symptom for something else entirely. A qualified vet should look at the animal.
Since you mentioned you have several snakes, I am assuming you know how a snake is supposed to "feel". If anything, Burmese pythons should not be overly squishy- they are supposed to have a very decent muscle tone.
Keep us posted.

Thank you to everyone tryiing to help. Over the holiday my husband put him in with another small snake and he has done a complete 360!! He ate, even though it was work, we still had to help him, helped him wrap around and then had to put the head in front of him but at least he finally ate!! He is acting so much better!! He is still wobbly when he puts his head up. He doenn't feel as "musshy" now. He has a decent size cage. It is not small at all. He has kept his food down. Its getting him to get it down is where he has the problem, he has the want but has problems. Yes, he will turn himself over if I put him on his back. He is my favorite snake!! I need to get batteries for my camera as soon as I do I will post some pics!! I have had him about 2 and a half months. He has doubled sized. He was perfect when we fist got him he only started acting weird in the past few weeks, mabe two to three weeks now.

I'm glad he finally ate for you and is doing better, though for future reference... I wouldn't put a snake you are unsure of/worried about that may be sick, etc. in with another snake until you are sure nothing is wrong. If there is doubt at all, quarantine is the best route, otherwise if it is a transmitable problem, you are putting your other snake(s) at risk. Just a helpful thought for the future... :) Good luck!
