Q: How to transport neonate GTP's

Junior

I need to transport one of my neonates. The little guy will be on a plane going cross country and I wanted to know what the safest way to move him/ her is. Usually I'd put my adults in a pillow case, placed in a tub with newspaper and then in cardboard box.

Any help would be very much appreciated

Are you talking about taking it on a plane WITH you or shipping it?

I'm talking about sending him via a cargo service where he'll be in the hold of the plane.

I don't have experience shipping GTPs so certainly don't take my word as the gospel, but I am guessing they are shipped similarly to other small arboreal reptiles - in a deli cup with something to hold onto. I've received geckos and snakes in deli cups with a piece of fake plant or that plastic green poultry fencing you can find in hardware stores so they don't get jerked around as much. Tape the lid down and pack them up like you would a larger snake.

Of course if you really want to be sure you should contact an established breeder/seller who has shipped a lot :) Good luck.

Do not ship him with a perch, he'll get thrown around during transit. Ship him as you would a terrestrial snake of similar size, he'll be just fine without a perch until he gets to his destination. You want a secure plastic container with some loosely packed paper towels so he doesn't get thrown around during his travel. Secure his container in an insulated box, add a heat pack if necessary. I'm assuming you've shipped before, if not, there are plenty of places on the net that have detailed instructions for safe packing.

What gfx said! If you're still not sure, I'd throw this question at Rico! Give him a shout at his email on his website. signalherp.com
