What's this about Red Rudis Chameleons?

In Relation To:
[Rudis1]

I'm just curious if anyone has heard of Red Rudis Chameleons and if so, what's the big deal? I haven't been able to find pictures of adults, just a few babies. And as baby chameleons are generally nondescript, that wasn't much help!
I recently brought home a couple babies I helped raise, and as they've grown they're starting to develop some wierd colors. Their mom was a beautiful grass green color, and at first they were all beautiful rich green colors. Now they're starting to turn tan and brown and orange, and since I'm totally unfamiliar with how these guys mature, I have no clue if this is normal coloration or not.
I think they're pretty freaking awesome either way, but there is next to no good information on them out on the great big internets...at least not that I can find.

yeah they're chamaeleo rudis, I'm not sure they're known as mtn dwarf chameleons though. The other common name I've seen for them is Ruwenzori Side Striped Chameleon, but that's it really. Couldn't find much except the same basic info reguritated on each site I found, regardless of using either common name or latin.

cute, no matter what name they go by :P
Wish you luck on finding some info, its incredibly irritating when sites just use other sites content over and again.

Sorry that this is getting sidetracked but I'm actually not looking for care info, I'm looking for info about the "red" rudis chameleons - I keep seeing blips about them but nothing concrete. That caresheet was the same thing I had originally found when googling them the first time, and the high temps it quotes are actually too low - these guys love basking when given the option. I had the fortune to talk to a few local breeders a few weeks ago, and was thrilled that my setup and what I had been doing with the babies and adults was ideal.
Mountain Dwarf Chameleon is a common name I've seen used for a few different species, so I had some trepidation about the accuracy of information found using that name. Check out Chamaeleo Elliotii, a neat chameleon that also comes up with that name. I've also heard folks in the real world refer to Chamaeleo hoehnelii as a mountain dwarf chameleon although according the internet that's not accurate either.
eh I'll ask around the locals a bit more next time I see them. Thanks anyway!

I believe they've got a red wash/patch on the side instead of yellow. Apparently there are few true Rudis in the hobby, most are crosses. Contact this guy, he should have some adult pix and he probably can tell you what you have: http://www.chamaeleonidae.com/

Thanks for the link, that gentleman is extremely knowledgeable and informative. FYI to share, red rudis is apparently a locale of a specific mountain range in tanzania. On page 4 of the photo album on that page, on the bottom, are adult examples of the red or jeweled rudis chameleon.
And "rudis" chameleons aren't rudis at all - they're Trioceros sternfeldi. Need to fix the latin name in the species database! :)
