Hey guys,
I had just recently posted a question about my Ball Python's scale rot issue. I've only been soaking her in the recommmended Betadine/Iodine and water solution every other day. I've been giving her a day to rest and keep dry and warm in her cage in between each.
Now, after this last soak, I was rinsing her and I noticed after holding her for a bit I had scales - or something - on my hands that came from her. Is this the solution doing this to her? Or is she just getting worse? Also, are those actual scales coming off or is it some type of film over top of them?
I'm already saving up and taking shifts at work to take her to the vet - but I figured I'd throw these pictures I just took and get some feedback.

She may just be shedding off the scales on her belly first since she has been getting the extra soaks. If the arae isn't getting any redder, more irritated looking, then I wouldn't worry. Just keep her dry and warm. You could cut down on the times you use the batedine to soak and just use water in between.
Also, if it is just a thin layer like shedding, it isn't hurting her. She is most likely getting rid of the layers that were irritated and she should be ok after one good entire shed.

What she said. No need for a vet visit, your snake is just growing a new set of healthy clothes and offloading the bad stuff.

Aimee, I hope it isn't dried betadine since it is supposed to be diluted in the water to look like weak tea and not applied directly and left to dry. I am not aware of betadine in any form but liquid so am unsure if it could be a cream or ointment. Either way I am pretty sure it is just the scales regenerating and at some point it will have a complete shed and the irritation should be if not gone over 75% better.

Another note I would like to add to this and hope it becomes searchable is that this isn't actually scale rot. It is a fungal-bacterial combined infection from wet soiled bedding that if left untreated can develop into scale rot which is actually much worse. www.scalerot.com Catching it when it looks like brown around the edges is best because it has not become systemic at this point and simply thoroughly cleaning the cage and furnishings and keeping up on removing waste immediately can prevent recurrence.

thanks for the great information! I have yet to use betadine on a herp so I haven't seen it first-hand, I didn't know it wouldn't slough.
