Q: When is it okay to add more tankmates?

Hey guys,I just purchased yet another healthy baby leopard gecko, and I know ive been asking alot of questions lately about them so I have yet just one more.

How soon can I put another leopard gecko in a tank with him/her and how many is okay to keep  in a 30 gallon tank?I also know you cant keep two males and all that together and such, but when I do sex him/her I would like to purchase some more for his company and for my personal enjoyment as well.Is there a step by step process I have to follow like introducing them to each other before I cage them together?Should I not put a larger leopard gecko with a smaller one?

Thanks again!

Despite what some keepers will tell you, size does matter. I always knew i was being lied to.... Anyway, you should always quarantine for a certain period of time. Ive heard everything from 1 to 3 months. I usually do it for a month. I dont think you should keep anything together if you dont know the sexes. Females will live with females and girls will live with a boy, but boys never play nice together. And they should always be the same size or at least very close. This prevents dominance over food.

Make sure they are nearly the same size.
Make sure u have only 1 male, sometimes u can get away with 2 with a 30 gal, but i don't know if i would.
if u have the right sexes, then in a 30 gal, u could probly keep as many as 4adults, but be careful, and make sure the cage is cleaned constantly.
By the way, i am asuming that the tank is a 30 breeder.
with a gecko, i would quaranteen about a month if they aren't from the same group.

these guys usually take well to new company

Wait at least thirty days before adding a tankmate. In all actuality I recommend that you never keep anything together unless it's for breeding purposes. In a 30 breeder you could hold maybe a 1.2 trio. I wouldn't go more then that and even then it's a bit crowded.

I agree with Melmo, I don't house any geckos together except for during breeding.  I've had females almost kill one another, so I'd rather be safe than end up with an injured or dead gecko. BUT if you want to, make sure you quarantine first, I'd recommend 60 days, then if they are the same size, introduce them to one another.  :)

My tank is just a regular 30 gallon fish tank I supose.I though leopards liked having others around cause they're like colony animals from what I heard?Reason asking cause I didnt want mine to be lonely, because he was like in a 5 gallon tank with 13 other babies so (ugh).so yeah. Also as far as breeding goes,no.

I honestly think leos do just fine alone.  in groups, it can really stress them out.  I prefer just keeping them by themselves :)

Leiren, its really up to what u want, if u want another, then i would get another, if u would rather buy something else, then do that, but u have a choice with a 30gal. tank.

30 gal breeders r(in inches) 36 long x 18 wide x  12 tall
