Q: Gargoyle gecko develops... tumor?
Posted By:

Crazy Gecko Gal

In Relation To:

Major

This morning I noticed a small, soft lump on my gargoyle gecko's (Major) left side. I had not previously noticed this, and the last time she was handled was a week or so ago, so it has popped up in a relatively short amount of time. Are gecko's known to develop cysts or tumors? Does this mean my gecko possibly has cancer? Recomended course of action?

Aimee

take him to the vet.

any animal 'can' get cancer. it may be a little abcess or something easy to fix, though.

Actually, there was a very recent case of a crested gecko that developed a tumor on his hemipenes and eventually were removed(ouch!). http://www.pangeareptile.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48810

I recommend finding a good reptile/exotics vet and having some testing done. There's no knowing what it is until then, and whether it is treatable or not. Best of luck with your garg!

Rachel, I would suggest going to the vet as well. I did have a similar lump pop up a few years ago on my ball and the vet drained it, and told me to watch it and if it came back, bring him in. It never came back and he's been fine ever since. I'm sure you know about them, but Pet Care is EXCELLENT. Go see Dr. Hulls :-)
