I have had several terrarium designs already, but i really wanted to change around my designs to incorporate live plants. Also I am the type who has to try erery possible design before I am satisfied. This terrarium in for juvinlie GT Leachianus I am getting next week.??? ??Its a 10 gallon turned leanthwise with a umbella plant, pothos( added after picture, there are more hiding places now) , a cork round, a branch and 2 food water cups on top of a humitdity box.  I will be making a acryic door, because screen loses humidity too quickly. Please give me any suggestions to make it better.

Honestly, imo it looks and sounds great. Leachies are such simple little fat geckos when they're little, he'll choose ONE favorite spot and you'll almost always find him there. Our hatchling has so much to choose from, and it never fails to see him in the same spots everytime.

We have a running water feature for our little guy though...have you considered that, maybe? We took the pump and tubing from a waterfall and put it in the middle of a shallow glass dish... filled it with large stones and created a 'rock pond' type deal. He drinks from it every so often, rubs on the wet rocks to help himself shed, and it helps the humidity stay at a decent level without us having to constantly tend to the tank.

I think it's awesome!

a couple tips to make the food dishes as pretty as the rest:

first, you've probably seen the magnetic food-cup thingies that can be moved...second, and much cheaper but takes a little effort - take a 2" X 2" slate tile from the Depot or Lowe's or whatever. chip off one corner so it's semi-roundish and not sharp. use aquarium silicone (non-toxic) to glue them into a back corner, as low or high as you like. they make great little shelves for food dishes, and they look pretty. you just have to give plenty of time for the silicone to off-gas.

otherwise, it's awesome and your little guy will be spoiled!

Bedding and backing would finish it off naturally.

I wrote a blog a couple years ago with what I did with the geckos... Worked out well until my flourescents died, and then the plants followed suit.

It's a two parter, so ... make sure to see the final result.

I might put in a backing, i have a cork tile that would look nice. I dont think im going to do a non paper towel substrate because hes only 15 grams and i dont want any risk of impaction as hes chasing after occasional crickets :D

The magnet thing is called magnaturals and they are awesome, kinda spendy but so worth it. They come with a water dish you can remove for easy cleaning and you can get a small one or a big one and they also have perching/basking ledges. The magnets are really strong and the stuff cleans up with a stiff brush and can withstand multiple bleachings. The bigger one can hold a small plant pot as well as being a water dish if you don't have a plant.

I would go with a cork background and use the cork tube to give it depth, as well as areas to place your plants.  False bottoms are always a plus but it will cut into the living space.  Should you go this route, or something similar, you may want to use a larger tank, such as a 20g.  Be careful, building these can be addictive and you may find the animals just get in the way.

As bsharrah said, cork works really well. You can also do a lot with liquid foam. You can mold it to look like rocks and such on the back of your tank, even make some little cubbies for your baby to hide, and it looks really cool. I wish I could remember what exactly my dad always uses. I just know it comes out of a tube and solidifies into a firm, foam-like background. He gets it from home improvement stores and has been doing that for years. If you're interested I could find out! As for plants, the ficus does work really well. Bromeliads are nice too. :) They like to hide down in the leaves. The setup you have going on looks really good though, either way!
By the way, the pictures of that tank in the post above look amazing too!

Btw, having it simple and sweet does make it WAY easier to clean the tank, especially if the items in there are easily removed. Just a thought!
