Q: Bearded Dragon Husbandry and Morphs
Posted By:

So I just aquired a Bearded Dragon and I had a few questions. First off is the typical "What morph does this look like?" one. I am not at all up to par on Dragon morphs. My second question deals with weight. Cera is currently around 3 years old and weights 306 grams. Is that a healthy weight for a female?

Yay! Beardie questions make me happy!

In terms of "morph" - she's a standard. Meaning, she's normal scaled (not reduced, microscaled, or leather...or...silkback, yikes!). In terms of "morph" in reference to color, the only way to really know that is to know her bloodlines. Unless you know that there's Cawley Red, or Citrus Tiger, or any of those "named color" morphs in her lineage, you can't really say. Babies pop out of clutches with random color patterns all the time, just the nature of the beast! She's lovely though, and congratulations on your addition! Her coloration is relatively normal, maybe hints of red/citrus somewhere in her past (or a tiger morph of some sort - she's got some crazy sidebars under there!
). I hate the term "standard" or "normal" though, because they're all gorgeous if you ask me! - those words have gotten a bad connotation, and it's just stupid!

In terms of her weight - judging from the picture, she looks great. No protruding hip bones, still has some pretty solid fat pads on her head...looks healthy to me! "Weight" can only really be judged in terms of length. If you said she was 306 grams and 22" long, I'd be concerned. Most of my dragons are fat, haha, but yours appears healthy to me!

Good luck with her, let us know if you have any questions or concerns! :-)

Give Cera my love!
