Q: Housing 2 Baby Balls Together
Posted By:

GingersPythons

I usually purchase my babies separate at different times so I've never questioned this but I'm about to receive two Baby Balls at the same time.  Even though I have separate habitats ready for them is it a bad idea to house them together for a month or so? & why?

They are coming from the same breeder!

Ideally (of course) you want to have them quarantined separately.

That being said, yes you can house them together. Even though they are solitary creatures in the wild, I've had some who love the company of other snakes. Just make sure that you do not feed them in the same place together :)

Better off housing them seperate  that way if there is an issue with one  you can quickly  figure  out what snake is sick  ...

I'm with Mike and Bart - separate, separate, separate.  I don't even co-habitate babies I've produced, from the same clutch, longer than the first week.

If you already have the seperate enclosures ready to go, why is housing them together even an issue? In my opinio, its a no brainer...seperate.  If you were in a tight spot then together would be ok but then again, all you need to do it run to walmart and buy a $1 6qt tub to make another temp enclosure until you can get a better one.

I would house them seperate for this reason, even though some people say you can get away with it: stress. Even though they CAN live together for years, doesn't mean that they aren't going to be competing over the best hide spots, warm spots, soak spots, etc in their viv. They can't tell you any other way than by getting ill or going off feed, or best case scenario, just not thriving to their best ability. It's not expensive to set up seperate tubs, what reason is their to huse them together is the better question? What if there is a male and female and they breed prematurely and the female gets eggbound? That's a recipe for a dead snake. Hope that gives you some ideas to bounce around why so many people say not to. No idea why people won't take the time to explain why.
