Q:

Two Day Shipping?
|
|
So I've offered up a garter snake for free as some of you know, right now I've had someone ask to take it, but as I've stated this is free snake, but whoever wants it, if not local of course, would have to pay the shipping. I've had several people contact me asking about how much shipping would be and after I got their zip code and got a quote from fedex they never respond (not sure why, don't most people know shipping is going to be $40-$50?).
Well finally someone asked if I would do two day shipping and my first thought was to say no since I assume two day shipping would not be safe for this little guy, but before I say no I figured I'd ask all of you if I put a 40 hour heat pack in would it be safe or just better to avoid all together?

I'd never allow my shipper to ship a snake 2-day...not worth the risk.

Although I'd never endorse it, in "normal" to cool weather, I'd be very interested to see a min/max thermometer go thru 2 day and see what the temps are like.
But not in the winter relying on a heat pack... the half to almost a day long is enough as it is.
However realize that a lot of the imports come over on voyages much much much longer than a day. And a lot die, but a lot live too.
As slam dunk a question/answer this is (no), it makes me curious the extremes a package might encounter on a two day trip. Or lack of extremes

I had a guy ship me my snakes via 2 day. I don't reccomend it. It was perfect temps to do it at, and everything did work out well, but it was close to having them lost durring the weekend. UGH! I have too much invested in my snakes to risk a 2 day shipment. And I didn't know that the guy was shipping my snakes 2 day until after they had been sent out. Lovely. And if you did ship 2 day, you would need a 72 hour heat pack to distribute the heat evenly over the longer period of time.

If you are certified to ship then it goes against your contact to ship 2 day. Everything needs to be shipped via priority overnight. So at that point it becomes a question whether it is worth it to you to break your contact.

That was one thing I told the guy was I had to check with Fedex cause I wasn't even sure if it's allowed. Definately not worth breaking my contract with Fedex and more importantly not worth the life of a snake, I will inform him that I can't do two day. I honestly thought it was going to be a bad idea, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.
Thanks everyone!

I wouldn't recommend it. It's too risky. Push towards an overnight.

I think it is a good idea. That way you don't have to worry about the snake or getting in trouble with FedEx.
