Q:
|
How much longer until she lays?
|
|
On January 14th I received a female ball python that was imported from Africa already gravid. I assumed she must have already gone through her pre-lay shed since she was so bright and looked like she had just shed. I figured that even if she had just ovulated though that if she didn't shed in the next 15 or so days that I would know she had already gone through her pre-lay shed.
Yesterday when I checked on her I realized she'd gone blue. This is 22 days after I got her and she hasn't actually shed yet, so is that normal to have a pre-lay shed that late? Should I expect that I actually have to wait another 30 or so days before we get eggs?
Thanks in advance guys!

Well, I guess I'd be inclined to think she would lay somewhere in the range of 24 to 34 days after she sheds.

She is on schedule if this is going to be her pre-lay shed, as my females all had their shed 20-24 days after ovulation. I've heard of some not shedding at all, some shedding twice before laying and some shedding really early too, so there are always exceptions to the rule. After the pre-lay shed she should lay anywhere from 27-40+ days later. I've read of some even going over 50 days but they usually take around 30.

Plus, you never really know for sure that she was gravid when you got her... Did you feel anything when you palpated her?

How sure are you with this person you got her from that she was gravid? Is this her first time?

She was imported from Africa already gravid and she is very much so gravid. I got her from Outback Reptiles and they got her from whoever imports from Africa. She's wild caught, but very full of eggs, you can see them and if you let her gently slide over your hand you can really feel them, unless of course she's got a bunch of tumors, lol. No clue if it's her first time since she was just imported as a wild caught animal.

If Outback told you she's gravid, she's gravid ;) I got my WC gravid Yellow Belly from them! Good luck with the eggs when they come!
