Not Quite Powerfeeding...
|
|
I have heard multiple opinions on this subject and was just wondering what the iherp opinion on this subject is. I am not advocating overfeeding or anything like that and I am not trying to hurt my animal's lifespan for some extra size, so please do not castrate me for asking this question. But, I am interested in feeding my snake a tad bit more often. Right now I have him on a regular schedule of feeding the same day every week once a week. Now, I have him on an appropriate size prey item and am not suggesting changing prey size or anything. I am just wondering what your guys' opinion on feeding him twice a week would be. I am interested in getting the most size out of him I can without endangering him. I may move up in prey size a tad bit early and if I have to pull back to once a week until he is used to it at that point, so be it, but right now, I am interested in feeding him normal size prey items for his size but just increasing feeding to twice a week. I just feel like he will be more content that way. Thoughts? Go.

There is no benefit whatsoever in increasing the frequency in which you feed your snake. It's far more likely to do some amount of harm than good, so why bother? Enjoy watching the snake grow at a typical pace, instead of rushing to the finish line. Just my opinion.

At most with the same prey size, I'd go down to every 5 days instead of 7 days, not twice a week. If you were willing to go slightly smaller I'd say go for it...but you need to give them time to fully digest before feeding them regularly.

Depending on the snake, my big boas eat 2 jumbo rats a week, their food it weighed out and given on monday and thursdays apart, it's too much for them in one day, but their still agitated if I miss that second feeding.. My balls are content on an exact every 7 days and my corns are every 5 days. Let your snake digest before feeding more often, I know my ball survivor won't touch more food if it hasn't been 7 days on the nose.

I have to say that what your referring to sounds a lot like power feeding to me... feeding too much OR too often. Why do you want your snake bigger faster? They'll get there eventually. NEReptiBreed, that sounds like a poor idea... Adult boas only need to be eating every 2 weeks on average, not twice a week! I'm curious to see photos of them with that feeding regimen... fat snakes are NOT healthy snakes. Do your boa even have time to digest when you feed them that often? If they can't eat it in one meal, then they don't need to be eating it.
You say you're not interested in harming your snake or over-feed, but feeding twice a week is exactly what will happen..
