My ball python has a little red mark (vein?) in his heat pit. Do ball pythons shed the skin in their heat pits? Do you think it'll clear up in a shed? Is it normal? Just wondering what it is! He had a little issue with mites a while back, but I'm pretty sure they've been eradicated. He's in a rack/tub, on paper towels, with a small water bowl. He gets a bath at least once a week, and dedicated exercise at least twice a month (to promote healthy poops).

iv never seen it in any of the balls that I have owned, however i would let him shed and see if it goes away, if not perhaps check with a local vet just to make sure that everything is ok with him

It could be a piece of stuck skin I would keep an eye on it and see how it looks after the next shed

I agree that it may be possible that there is some retained shed there but after a bout with mites it could very well be some lingering irritation from the infestation. I would also keep an eye on it until after the next shed (feed him an extra meal) and see what happens. If it's still there it may be a possibility that it's scarred from the mites. In any case, if you don't see it resolved within the next few weeks take him to a good exotics vet. Is he acting like he's uncomfortable or rubbing his nose at all?

He seems absolutely normal in every way.
