Q:

Gargs and spurs
|
|
In Relation To:
Quinn

Happy Saturday!
As Quinn's been getting bigger, she's beginning to get a little, well, fluffy in her gonadal region. Not the big obvious bulge you'd normally see in a male, but a little fluffy. It was pretty big one day, but then she took a .5 gram poop, and it went away. Her weight as of Thursday is 19.3, so I know she's right around the size where they'd start showing this sort of thing.
She also has spurs in her nether-regions. The fluffiness, while she continues to grow, just stays slightly fluffy. I have no plans of breeding whatsoever, so I don't care either way what sex she is.
I took a macro-shot of her ventral area, I see a couple rows (2 or 3) of what appear to (me) to be pseudo-pores. I'll try to upload it Monday, I'm *supposed* to be doing work. Bleh.
So, here's my question. Do spurs for sure indicate male, or can the girlies have them, too?

Females can have small cloacal spurs AND look a little "fluffy" AND have pseudo pores, so good luck sexing! Best thing I can think of to differentiate at this age is definitely pores: if you have a few solid rows of pores, I'd say male, but if there are a couple pores here and there where the legit rows would be, you might have yourself a female.

I'm king through the same thing with Ginger! I thought it was female, but he's starting to get a puff and the spurs are getting bigger. I don't know his weight, but he's between 7 and 8 months.

Gargs don't have sure-fire sexing methods, and plus they are late bloomers :P
Vienna has a fluffy rear end, large spurs, and at least 3 rows of pseudo pores, but she's a she :P

On a male I normally see 5 rows of pores. My female gargs can have a pretty large bulge depending on how chunky they are.

Oy. Aren't they tricky!
From the macro-shot I got that's actually view-able, it appears to be 2-3 rows of pseudo-pores. She continues to grow but the bulge hasn't "dropped" yet, nor gotten any bigger, so I'm hoping she's going to stay a she! If not, oh well, he'll just have a bit of a complex from being called a she for so long.

And isn't it funny how I've viewed that page on the repashy forum 1,001 times, but still come here to ask my questions!
