Q:
|
Egg Positions
|
|
So my het pied laid 5 eggs, problem is they are kind of on top of each other and I'm worried about them crushing each other or something. Should i separate them, I know the dental floss method is best, but it still scares me.
What do you all think I should do?
Thanks in advance as always.

From what I have read in the past I dont think there is harm in leaving them together but if you notice one of them "going bad' that is one you should separate but I am no expert

I also believe that just before they hatch (within ten days) they will soften again and you will be able to pull them apart.

Dental floss? I always just pull them apart. Of course I'm talking about rough and tough corn snake eggs. I know nothing of your silly duck-faced snake eggs.

I think leaving them how they are is fine, I've seen big breeders do that. Of course I haven't bred balls, but I think it's sound advice. :)

No need to separate. If one goes bad it won't hurt the other eggs. If you do want to separate them you can "saw" them apart with waxed dental floss like Nate said, but dip the floss in raw egg yolk first. For now it's probably best to leave them. Pulling them apart can peel/tear layers off one or more of the eggs

I think you guys are missing my main concern, will the pressure from the top eggs hurt the ones on the bottom?

Lol, well my concern was because of the light diffuser, I've never used one and I was worried since the pressure would be on a thin grate rather than displaced on solid bedding.

Nope , I agree , no need to spereate . The hatchlings will find a way out. If you try and seperate them now , you run the risk of busting eggs , that wiould be nooo good :*( Best of luck to you!!

fine, fine, fine! I hatched a clutch that way with no issues at all. out of 12 eggs, there was on stillbirth, but it was on top of the pile.

Yeah I wasn't really worried about them not being able to get out, just the pressure of the top eggs being transferred onto the grate had me worried and I wondered if I should put them on substrate instead. I've had piles like this before, but this is the first time I've used a grate instead of putting them in substrate.
