Q: Automatic misting systems?

Does anyone have any suggestions for an automatic misting system?  I'm having trouble with my ETB tank.. sometimes the fogger just won't turn on and every now and then hand misting isn't an option (out of town, etc)

All the products I'm finding online have terrible reviews, like they stop working after a month or just don't work at all.

Help?

Never needed a misting system for anything but Rich at RBI has never let me down on anything else.

Pro products makes a good one. Pricey, but can handle up to 25 cages. I use it for my geckos. I just have to clean the nozzles and connectors every now and then because of hard water. I have the basic pro-mister. I am on my phone otherwise I'd add a link...

I have a couple of the Exo Terra Monsoons. One has worked flawlessly for almost 2 years now. The other one the timer is screwed up and mists randomly. It has an automatic mist on start up so you can just hook it up to a standard light timer, set the time from there and it works fine. But if I were to do it again I think Mistking is the way to go. I've only ever heard great things about it and reasonably priced for a starter kit. http://www.mistking.com/Starter-Misting-System-MKMSN.html

I should mention that this is only for ONE animal. I do not need an entire system for multiple setups...

I use a MistKing set up for my panther chameleon. They have a Starter kit that is $100 USD which is awesome and perfect for one enclosure. I've had this particular setup going for almost a year without any issues. Just need to make sure you don't use hard water from the tap (I have an RO filter which I use to fill my reservoir). The URL is here and looks like they have a free shipping special right now: http://www.mistking.com/Starter-Misting-System-MKMSN.html

I think Zoo med makes a small tank side misting system  I don't know  if it's any good but it's a cheap date !

I can't speak highly enough about the Mist King systems. I've been using them for several years now without an issue. Their timer can also be set on a per second basis which is very handy, and I'm not sure if other brands have this feature.

Mist king is the best out there IMO the pumps have ceramic bearings and they can literally run dry for hours and days worst case. The nozzles can be expensive but the exo terra monsoon nozzles work perfectly fine with the mist king and are half the cost. If you use RO water or distilled water with the systems you will have no problems. Just full up a 5gallon bucket from Home Depot with water and that will last you a while

Steadfast, do I need anything other than the Mistking setup - you mentioned nozzles.  Do I have to buy them separate?

nah a few people posted links to mistking so I dont have to link it but when you go on there just look for the complete kits and read what is included I think the base one comes with 2 nozzles but may be able to handle 8 (I really dont remember) if you wanted to add on then you could go with the exo terra ones

I have several of the Zoo Med Habba mist units, and one Exo Terra Monsoon.  I've been happy with them both.  Right now I’m only using the Exo Terra Monsoon.

I like the Monsoon's larger reservoir.  The timer is not reliable.  It did kick on once, and spray the contents of the reservoir into the cage, luckily it wasn’t full, but I still had some mopping to do.  Now I have it set up on an outlet timer, and I have not had any trouble with it since then.  I filled it up, went on vacation for 10 days even, and it ran fine the whole time.  The pet sitter didn’t have to deal with even opening my evil chondro’s cage.  You can set it up with several mist heads (it comes with two), and have them set at different spray intensities.  I kind of like this one better (even with the crappy timer) because of its ability to produce a finer mist, and the larger reservoir.  You can work around the timer issue easily enough by using an outlet timer.

The Habba Mist is louder, doesn’t hold as much water, and can only have one spray nozzle at a time.  Also its mist doesn’t get as fine as the Monsoon – the water droplets are bigger, and don’t hang around in the air as long.  The Habba Mist is better for spraying water for droplet-lapping animals to drink from than raising humidity.  The timer on this one is really good and dependable though, and you could set it for longer durations or more frequent sprayings if you're aiming to raise humidity.  When I had Emeralds I used these on their cages - but wasn't ever gone for days at a time (and the Monsoon hadn't come out yet).

I don’t know anything about the other bigger/more expensive systems.  And personally I've never met a fogger I've liked.  They seem neat, but always wound up feeling like more trouble than they were worth.

I just feel like most of these zoomed and exo terra kits are around $60-80, and while seem to get the job done, are cheaper made and less reliable.. if shelling out the extra dosh for a mistking is worth it, I might just do that... Thanks everyone!
