Q: Is this a normal or a possible jungle boa?

I was wondering about this little boa, is he just a "normal" phase or is he a possible "jungle".  I was told he was a possible jungle, but was 100% het for albino. Just not sure what would qualify him as a jungle. He is very beautiful with pinks and lavenders on his side. In these pics he is fully opaque so they really don't do him justice.

The Jungle trait is tricky and one that I do not fully understand, thus I have chosen not to work for them at this point because of that. It can be very difficult to tell. From what I've gathered, it's more than just a pattern trait, and some Jungles are abberant and some aren't. There is supposed to be something with coloration, etc. I think Jungles often color up more as they mature... I believe I've also read that the trait needs to be proven out??

I think you got exactly what it was advertised as, a Possible Jungle Het Albino. If I'm not mistaken, the breeder is an iHerp member.

Yes bka mama, the breeder is an iherp member, matter of fact I have another of the offspring they produced. They are very nice people with fair prices and generous with advice. I am very pleased with both, the reason for my question is that I have seen lots' of pics now of what people are calling "jungles" and my curriosity has been piqued. Also I have seen some other normals (in pet stores) and they are nowhere in the same ballpark as mine. I guess I'm lucky to have such a nice boa. Thank you!  Smile

I know there is an already accepted answer, and I am going to go out on a limb, and probably going to get flamed for it.  But....

I don't believe in jungle boas.  It is a term assigned to any attractive boa with a certain pattern, the abberancies, etc...  Which I believe are random in allot of boa clutches, some more than others.  And if you breed two snakes with this appearence, of course your chances of producing more are greatly improved.  But, it is not a single gene morph.  I've seen breedings in the past, of two "jungle" boas, with very little jungle appearance in any of the litter, so they are all sold as "probable jungles".  WTF??  Can any other morph in the herp world pull this off as long as this has??  If it were a single gene genetic morph, there would be some type of consistant results, even if they were occasionally skewed.

If this were a true "morph", then, high yellow jungles would be a morph.  As well as Salmon, being a different morph from hypos.  It's a line bred/polygenic trait, which is appealing.

Sonja, you are a very intelligent woman, especially in regards to reptiles and breeding.  The reason you don't understand it is, there is really nothing to understand.  It is random polygenic variation.  Nothing more. In almost every litter of any B. constrictor ssp breeding, crosses, pure localaties/ssp, etc... there is at least one that, if it came from the right pair, could be labeled as a "possible jungle", probable jungle", or "low expression jungle".

Rockabilly, I am sorry to rant on your question, lol.  Either way, that is a great looking animal :)

Thanks Fishbone! I value real opinions based on experience and "know how". This was very honest and eye opening from my standpoint. Everyone has given good input and I feel that I am getting more clear on this whole elusive jungle issue. BTW, one of my all time favorite bands is Fishbone! Cool

Fishbone
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, otherwise known as 1994 I believe, the first time I had to log onto a bbs, a cnet amiga bbs if I remember correctly, I had no idea what handle to pick. And in my cd player was "give a monkey a brain & he'll swear he's the center of the universe". So, I've used Fishbone ever since.
