Q:

GTP body swelling
|
|
In Relation To:
Vali [LW-11-01]
|
|
|
Hi guys, my GTP Vali has developed some significant sweeling from the mid body to the vent - I thought it was the usual food bulge (fed on saturday) until I saw her today and she was hanging the swollen part down off the perch.
I bathed her to induce her to defecate in case it was constipation but no joy.
Have any of you chondro owners seen this happen?
Thanks,
Aaron

My first guess would have been constipation

Thanks guys - her temps are 85 to 77 with humidity between 60-100% depending on when she's misted.
The swelling is the same today, from the middle of her body to her vent, but she's pulled that part back on the perch so I'm hoping she's a little more comfortable.
I'll try bathing her again tonight, she seems to like it and it always helps my boas poop :0)

Have you been breeding her?
If not continue to soak her, if its constipation and she doesn't go after a day or two of soaking I would try giving her a small meal like a rat pink, fuzzie or pup injected with a little mineral oil.
Once she goes I highly recommend taking the poop to a vet so they can make sure she doesn't have any parasites causing the swelling. If she is full of worms/parasites it could cause her to bloat.

Crisis over! I bathed her again last night and gently massaged the swollen area - after about 15 minutes she had an almost boa sized poop and she shrank down again so much she had wrinkles for a while :) I examined her poop and found a hard piece right at the front which turned out to be an undigested mouse's skull, which is seems had been blocking her up. I'm going to increase the gap between feeds and wait til she's pooped before feeded from now on.
Thanks again,
Aaron.
