Q: Fed-Ex Shipping Questions
Posted By:

I've been wanting to get fed-ex certified to ship, and found the threads on Fauna to get me through it, but I was wondering if anyone knew how to avoid the fact that I'll be shipping from my house.  When you go to set up a new account, it says "Your company must be listed as a business in your local directory assistance or have a Dunn & Bradstreet listing."  I only have a few sets of animals that I breed, so I hardly feel justified to go through all of the paperwork to start a business.  What have ya'll done?

Thanks a bunch to all those who reply!

I ship from my house. As long as you register as a business, you shouldn't have a problem. I just got certified a few months back and I had no issues whatsoever with it. My business is online so of course I more than likely do it from my place of residence.

What district do you live in? I live in GA and my district office is in Nashville, TN. If you think your district is in TN, I can give you the contact information for David (the person who takes care of the certification process), who is an AWESOME guy who will walk you through the entire process and file your paperwork for you.

That's not the case.... Just call your local fedex rep... they will get you set up.... I always drop my own packages off to the office... I think it costs more to have them pick it up... it took me one week to get certified

Most places, depending where you are located have a local drop off point where FedEx picks up the packages.  Mine is a mom & pop drugstore right around the corner from my apartment, and the last pick up is 8:00 pm, so it is nice that I can get home from work and package up any animals going out, minimizing the number of hours they have to be boxed up.

I'm not really referring to actually getting the shipments out, more of the registration/sign-up process.  The Fed Ex website made it seem like you have to be a registered business with a Tax ID number etc etc to get through the process, but it seems like their are plenty of loopholes and such to use.  Process is underway.

Yeah, you don't have to have a Tax ID number and all that stuff.  Just make up a name for your "business."  If your last name is Smith, you could just call it "Smith Reptiles" or something.  That's sufficient for FedEx. ;)
