Q: Salamander Breeding

So I see that not many people on here have salamanders but here goes nothing. Although ambystoma laterale - blue-spotted salamander is very common in some areas, they are critically endangered here in Iowa. There are only two very small populations. I have written permission from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the permits to possess them. I currently have 2 females and 1 male, each housed in a 10 gallon terrarium. And I am currently setting up a 55 gallon tank for the breeding terrarium. The hopes is to use the offspring produced to increase the current populations or start new populations in other suitible areas. So, my question is, does anyone have experiences in breeding salamanders, or any tips on housing them or how the tanks should be set up for greatest health and success. Whether being substrate suggestions, artificial rain cycles or food varieties.

Thank you in advance for any advice given. I have done much research but would love to have the advice of someone who has personally done something of this nature!

Rich in Reptiles

Well, not in captive breeding, unfortunately! Sounds like a great project though, good luck!

Well do you have any suggestions on proper habitats for them or what would work best in a vivarium for mole salamanders?
