Alright, so my man and I have just recently rescued a Savannah Monitor. About 11" or so in length, we've taken a liking to calling him Nihilus. I saw it fit with how voracious he is when feeding.
His set up right now is a tank ( Chris will be building him a nice enclosure, carpenter and all!), the tank is at 65-70 humidity, substrate is eco-earth. His basking is at about 127 degrees and his over all temp is at 87-90 (depends on the temp in our room I have noticed). The temp at night has averaged out to 78 (averaged. As we had just gotten him Tuesday the 7th).
Now, I might be paranoid but I am thinking he came to us with the startings of a respiratory issue and slightly dehydrated. When I slightly press his throat I heard a bit of mucus. He has no bubbles though and is quite active! His eyes are vibrant and not cloudy or sunken; Yet I have not seen him drink.
Like I said though, he is quite active. He eats like a champ. Burrows and moves stuff out of his way, but after that he just rests. It could be that he tuckers himself out and all. I am resorting to hand watering to be sure and keeping the temps up a bit more to aid in his respiratory health (just in case), right now he is resting and his head is not elevated.
Apologies for this long winded post and me seeming a bit paranoid. I have a boa and a python. I have also fostered many a reptile, amphibian, and mammal for a long time. Yet, one can never be too cautious.
To leave on a more upbeat note. He is quite the clumsy little guy! Thank you in advance!
