no they are the same as other snakes..... could be because of thick mucous from a resp inf... if your caging isnt optimum,,, P curtus ssp need perfect conditions as neonates... 70 % humidity and temps in the mid 80s

hes humidity been fine and temps too maybe when he was shipped here. could she get it from 14 hours of low humidity?wouldnt it make weird noises or stargaze if it was a ri? got any ideas from me to try and fix it at home?

I've heard of tongue problems with captive populations of snakes that are inbred over and over and over, like Dumerils Boas.  I don't believe this is prevalent in Borneo Bloods, but I'm no expert, just haven't read anything on it, but there are always those irresponsible people out there.

Open the animal's mouth and look and see if its a defect in the tongue.  How long have you had the snake?  Has it eaten or anything?  Any RI symptoms?  Bubbles, gurgling, throat breathing, wheezing?

Check and see if its perhaps a tongue defect....or next feeding time watch him/her more closely and see if when he goes into "hunt mode" if his tongue comes out any further.  Other than that, I have nothing and perhaps one of the more experienced guys can provide better insight than I can.

I would think she wouldn't eat if it was an RI, but I'm not sure.  I would ask, "has she been acting normal?" but you've only had her for a short time, so it's hard to tell what normal is.  For the moment, I would keep a close eye on her and monitor temps and humidity often.  Could be a defect, or could be something else.  I'm sure someone else on here knows more than I do, and hopefully they can be more helpful.

I've got a BRB who's tongue never flicks out past the very tips of the forks. She's never taken a meal on her own and she's an 9/07 critter. When I put food into her mouth, the tongue can extend normally, she just never does this when she's on her own. My theory is that she's a short bus kinda kid, she probably had some oxygen loss during the birthing process. I have never gotten her to strike and she seems to have zero prey response. Sounds like your guy may have a similar tongue thing, but probably not the short bus syndrome since it eats fine. Hopefully he's just a bit weird and nothing else is wrong.

Appetite shouldn't be used as a diagnostic symptom for RI's.... Ive seen plenty of snakes eat with severe RI's..... it's really hard to make a good diagnosis from such a brief description.... sometimes mouth and Ri's will make the mucous in the mouth thick and the snake has trouble fully extending the tongue..... As far as the lack of appetite.... neonate P curtus ssp are notorious for being hard to get eating... I've had to start several of them out on baby quail.... they are really shy, and don't generally like to have rodents dangled in front of their face... most of them prefer to eat in the dark also as young.....Give it lots of stuff to burrow in... I use moistened spagnum, and cypress mulch....... I use tubs and keep the enclosure damp...... BLood pythons live in the mud and swamp, and contrary to popular belief they don't get scale rot from being kept in wet conditions.....If you have any problems Im me... I was amongst the first group of people to breed Malaysians in the US... I have alot of experience with these guys

if its and ri im guessing its not that bad of one bcuz there is no other signs. so now what do i do lower the humidity and raise the temps ?

REPTILEN1NJA
or do i raise the humidty i got her on 70-75 % right now and 85 degrees

No.... lowering humidity for bloods will actually cause a RI, or exacerbate it.... plus I don't think we should jump to conclusions just yet.... not really enough info to diagnose.... neo bloods are pretty fragile compared to other snakes.... I always keep babies in small tubs.... what kind of cager do you have???? does it make noises when it breathes??? the tongue deal could be a sign of stomatitis also...but I wouldn't go an administer anti-biotics..could you get some photos

i gave you all the info i have he makes no noise no bubbles nothing but the toungue wont fully extend. she does breathe alil  heavily could be caz she nervous. i got her in a tub rite now. as for a pic i doubt i have a good enough camera to pick up its tongue flickering and there is not other signs by its mouth that would give you a better description

does the tongue flick rapidly, or abnormally sluggishly???? it could just be a morphological anomoly
