Corn snake Diamond sick again? Refused to eat today.
|
|
My original post is still up so u can see what I had problems with before concerning Diamond. Read blog entry for original post.
Now however, I am concerned with her once again because she refused eating an adult mouse today. I've never had so much trouble with her before which is why these things concern me so much. In the last 4-5 days when I have held Diamond there is a whizzing, or some kind of sound coming from her which is a big concern to me. And because I've never gone without feeding her for more than 6 days when she was eating right ummm...going without feeding for 10 days and her not eating well makes me concerned. Any ideas? Or just need to get her checked out again?
Thanks,
Anjeanette

I am glad you are a concerned snake owner, however you may be a tad over concerned. I have a few corns whose eating habits are enough to drive you batty. My blizzard male hasn't eaten properly since feb. and my stripe whom I bred hasn't stopped eating even while breeding! The noise you hear may be from retained shed or it may just be her way of complaining about being handled. Either way unless she is bubbling at the mouth I wouldn't rush to the vet thinking URI. As long as she is maintaining her weight and is still drinking water and passsing urates I would just keep an eye out for bubbles and just keep offering food at the regular feeding times and try not to worry so much!
BTW did you ever confirm if Diamond was a he or she?

Has Diamond shed recently? Its possible that her nostrils are clogged with shed. It is also possible that it could be showing early signs of an RI. How long has Diamond been wheezing?
As far as the not eating, this could have something to do with the wheezing. It could also be that its entering a shed cycle.
A vet trip may seem unneccessary, but it something happens later on, youll be upset that you didnt go in the first place.

No, I haven't actually confirmed one way or the other if Diamond is a she/he. But I'm pretty darn sure she is a girl from what I've compared to in corn snake book photos and on the internet I'm pretty sure. As far as her whizzing it's been about a week since I've noticed her doing it and as far as I can tell she is not in the shedding stage. I'm just concerned because ever since I got her 3 yrs ago she's never skipped a meal and didn't start skipping any meals until 1 1/2 years ago and only during the shedding stage, right after she shed she would eat just as usual. It wasn't until a couple of months ago when I really got worried about her because her change in behavior and constantly refusing food so I took her to the vet and she got like 8 injections of batril for a URI. After 25 days of not eating and 8 shots later she started eating on a regular basis again but not she refused her food once again and sounds whizzy? So I don't know what to do.
