Q: Can anyone help me in the kitchen?!?!

Wrong Turn

Wrong Turn loves romaine lettuce, but I was recently told it has no nutritional value for him. Is this true?
He wont eat bok choy or even dandilion! He's really picky about his leafy greens. He loves smashed dried beans, carrots, a tiny bite of apple now and then (thats all the apple he'll eat... one bite). Wrong Turn loves blue berries and strawberries, but i only give them every now and then, I'm scared to much fruit will harm him some how, I guess like candy and kids :)Should I be worried over fruits?
I also give him squash, yellow and green, but is all squash okay for him, should I avoid certian types?
I also give him mulivitamins and calcium twice a week, with 2 huge crickets once a week. No meal worms. (He actually runs from meal worms, go figure.)
Can someone help me with a diet that would be tasty for him, healthy for him, and i can buy in my local produce section? I would really appreciate it, and so would he.

Romaine is nutritious and great to feed uros, iceburg lettuce is what u shouldn't feed because of no nutrition.
I feed my beardies kale.

Fruits should only be fed once or twice a week for uros, they should be eating mostly veggies.

A mix of greens and squash would be great as a staple along with a few dusted crickets.

Here is a list of good greens off the top of my head:
kale
collard greens
mustard greens
turnip greens
romaine lettuce

Lettace shouldn't be given at all. Why do you think we diet with lettace? Lettace is very sweet and it's hard to get animals to stop eatting it.  My uros all ate
collard greens
turnup greens
dandeleion greens
and mustard greens
I used to but frozen packs of fruit and veggies. They got fruit and roaches every other week.

Romaine is ok to feed them. It is chock full of vitamins and minerals. Iceberg is what you should not feed them. I found this "grocery list" that may be of some help to you:

There is also some good stuff here:

Hope this helps.

I always avoided lettace all together. I was told its very filling but not nutritional.

I'm sorry, but you were misinformed. Leafy lettuce is a good food source. It is the head lettuce that is void of nutrition.  There are greens that are better, but, romaine and other green leafy veggies are good food for them. I would say the key to any animals health is variety, but it appears this particular animal doesn't want to try new things.

Ya, most lettuces are not good sources of nutrition, BUT romaine lettuce IS, i wouldn't hesitate for a second to feed it to a beardie or uro.

I prefer kale though because it is cheap, has a long shelf life, and doesn't stink as bad in it's poo form

If you take a look on Deerfernfarms they advise as a base using the spring mix you can purchase at the store and then just adding in some bok choy...So I'd say just supplement just use that as your base...and keep on doing what your doing, all you can do is provide him with the appropriate things and find out what he will eat and make sure he gets that at least...

Doug from Deer Fern is a good guy and since he breeds I'd trust his word on good food. My picky little brat will actually dig through her food to get the bits she likes. I have actually misted greens with apple juice to get picky eaters going...seems to work

I had some beardie babies once that HATED salad. In the end, I pureed some crickets, used it as a "dressing" on salad and VIOLA! after a week or so of it, they got the hint.

Joseph got it right, right from the start, from everything I've ever read or been told.

The nutritional difference between Romain and Iceberg lettuce is true for Humans as well.  Iceberg lettuce is a total waste of fridge space.  But, Romain has nearly the same nutritional composition as spinach.

thank you all. I really appreciate the response. and I wont be taking away his romain lettuce. I'll have to try the spring mix. I know romain and other lettuces hold water thats why i never stopped feeding it to him, he needs it for the fluids. he's a dessert dweller and very sensitive to humidity. so its his only source of fluids besides what i mist his salad with. but it was the squash that scared me. OK dont laugh... i know pumpkin is supposed to be poison to some animal and i know squash is related to pumpkin and... well  long stry short... I had a nightmare his squashed made him sick and he died. I hate those realistic dreams where everything feels real!!

Pumpkin is fine for herbivorous reptiles, so no fear.
