Well you could also write a program in excel, i guess, but same question applies. What if your PC crashes?

Paper and pen is still the best way. Fires and floods are your worry there, but how often is house on fire/filled with water? Seriously....

Now that ive said that, my house is going to flood and then explode. $hit!

Pro will have export to Excel (or CSV or whatever)
You can print tracking pages also.

The iHerp database is backed up every hour. Running off of mirrored drives... then archived offsite. Which is much more than a home user typically does. :)

iHerp's not going anywhere.

Aaron's a smart guy and very good at what he does; I have a lot of faith in iHerp and I've, admittedly, become very lazy about my own back-ups.  I'm more concerned about falling out of Aaron's fickle favor.  Think about it...  really, he could "poof" your account out of existence at any time!  Can you imagine?  One chondro joke gone wrong...  A "your mama" comment upon which he frowns...  Tread lightly, Rick.  One false move and you're gone.  That really seems to be the collective mood around here.

Can we beta test the backup feature for awhile to make sure it works for future pro users? Having no way to backup my data makes my inside parts itch some.

I copy and paste everything into a word document, and then back-up the tracking and photos onto a CD once every couple of months or so - or after a really big photo shoot or something

Julie, when pro goes beta, you'll be the first to know. :)

Thanks everyone for responding. I was just worried cause I use cards now. I am planing on getting rid of them and just using this site to track my stuff. I am really loving this site so far.

Thanks Aarron.

I just write everything down in a journal used just for my snakes. And I keep it next to the computer at all times. That way I can write it down once a month or so. But I think I might just copy and paste into a word document as well and put it on my memory stick just in case. Thanks, Aaron for being so awesome! This is a very great site for reptile folk.
