Q:

When can I add younger turtles to established tank?
|
|
I have two adolescent red-eared sliders in an established 100 g tank. They have been thriving there for 2 years. It has proper lighting, heating, fluval filter, etc. This spring we acquired two very young turtles (river cooters maybe) and have been keeping them in a smaller tank with a uv heat bulb (no filter, just frequent cleanings) and they are doing very well. They are eating everything including live food and turtle sticks, tubifex worms, dried shrimp and krill. (The older turltes ONLY ate live food as babies and were very picky, these arent'.) They have grown to 1 1/2" and 2". The RES are about 5". Could they share a tank at this time or is it to soon?

How large are your adults? I wouldn't put them together if theres a 3inch or larger diffrance. I had the same thing going on as you and when I put my younger two with my older on he ate them. Parts of there shell and all.

Yeah I was gonna say if the larger are only eating live... I dont think small live animals will mix with them well.
